The Short Take

Meiomi Pinot Noir is a multi-appellation California blend — Monterey, Sonoma, Santa Barbara — that is darker, richer, and sweeter than traditional Pinot. Jammy cherry, mocha, vanilla. Not Burgundy. Not trying to be. A crowd-pleaser at $18-23.

Let me tell you what happens when you pour Meiomi at a dinner party. The wine people in the room will make a face. Everyone else will ask for a second glass. Both reactions are correct. This is not Pinot Noir the way Burgundy defines it. It is darker, richer, more extracted — jammy black cherry, raspberry, mocha, vanilla from oak, soft tannins that feel like velvet. It is the Pinot Noir equivalent of a cashmere sweater. Not technical. Just comfortable. At $18-23 it does exactly what it is supposed to do. If you are building a cellar and someone in your household does not love tannic reds, keep three of these on the rack. It is hospitality in a bottle.
