The Short Take

Krug Grande Cuvée is a multi-vintage blend from over 120 wines across 10+ vintages, aged a minimum of 7 years on the lees. Brioche, hazelnut, citrus, dried fruit, and a depth that vintage Champagnes from lesser houses cannot touch. The benchmark of benchmarks.

Every edition of Grande Cuvée is numbered. The 171st is a blend of 127 wines from 11 different vintages going back over a decade. Most non-vintage Champagne blends 2-3 years. Krug blends 11. That is the difference. Brioche, hazelnut, candied citrus, a creaminess that never gets heavy, and a mineral finish from the chalk below. It does not taste like celebration. It tastes like certainty. Expensive? Yes. But compare it to what you would spend on a great bottle of Burgundy or Barolo and it holds its own. And it pairs with absolutely everything from oysters to fried chicken to nothing at all.
Pairs With

Oysters, fried chicken, potato chips, everything, nothing.
