The Short Take
Domaine Weinbach Grand Cru Schlossberg Riesling 2022 from Alsace is one of the great dry Rieslings in the world — granite minerality, white peach, lime zest, and a tension between richness and acidity that makes you pour another glass before the first one is done.
I am going to say something that loses me credibility with a certain kind of wine person: I used to be a red wine guy. I would drink whites politely and reach for the Cab when nobody was looking. This bottle broke that.
Schlossberg is a Grand Cru vineyard on pure granite in Alsace. Weinbach farms it biodynamically and makes a Riesling that has no business being this complex for a white wine. White peach, lime zest, wet stone, a salinity that tastes like the mineral itself, and an acidity that cuts through everything and keeps the finish going for a full minute.
Dry. Bone dry. If you think Riesling is sweet, you have been drinking the wrong Riesling. Cellar this for 5-15 years and it will develop petrol and honey notes that make it even more interesting. Or drink it tonight with shellfish and never look at Chardonnay the same way again.
